After a near 1 year & 4 month unannounced hiatus, I’M BACK! I never forgot about this journey or those who were in need of inspiration. I simply needed to take some time out for myself. Life became a bit like a tornado. Nonetheless, I survived it by the grace of God! Deitrick Haddon definitely personifies my hiatus with his song, “Just As I Am“, press play on the video to the right, should you care to listen. My goal for the blog this year is to update at least twice a month, if not more frequently. | |
First things first… HAPPY NEW YEAR! Even if I am 14 days late. I certainly give thanks to God for bringing me to another year. Moreso, I was able to celebrate the new year with my mom on vacation for her birthday. We had a blast and I can’t wait to get back to the beach, my second home.
Most people make a list we all know as a New Year’s Resolution that we typically drop by February. Instead of giving myself that illusion of reaching a non-existing state of perfection, I decided to search within in hopes of mending a few broken pieces. Due to a few of the meds I’ve been on here lately, my attitude and overall demeanor has been out of whack. I’ve been mean, grumpy and rude. Thankfully, I’ve got great friends and family who have been a huge source of strength and support. I started to withdraw from my loved ones because of fear of treating them wrongly. I haven’t even gone out with my girls for the weekend. One Sunday I was watching Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday (SSS) with Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage. I was deeply moved by this particular SSS; it was like Shawn was speaking directly to my situation. Be it the meds, life situations, or a combination of both, at my core I was unhappy. His advice was to take 5 minutes out of your day and write down 3 things for which you are grateful. The thought process here is that it’s hard to be unhappy/sad/depressed when you have a grateful heart and are appreciative of even the smallest things. I’m 15 days into the #HappinessChallenge and I have to admit, it really has improved my outlook, not so much for my mood. But, again, that’s medically induced. So I challenge you to try the happiness challenge, and be grateful. Feel free to share your results or what you are thankful for in the comments. Don’t ever forget, you are greater than your situation, you can overcome it!
