I’m so thankful that awareness for invisible diseases is gaining attention and that more people are fighting for the cause. This week, September 9-15, 2013, is National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week. I absolutely love the theme this year, “I choose to ___. Invisible illness isn’t a choice. My visible hope is.” It’s taking a proactive stance on awareness. In my personal experience with trying to spread awareness to my friends and family, many of them have laughed it off and some just never quite get the point or never take what I’m saying seriously. This leads to even more frustration. Many times, it seems like people only view you as someone looking for a handout instead of someone who is trying to promote awareness and move forward in your own journey. This years theme, “I choose to ____” helps take away the shame that some people associate with chronic illnesses, and replaces it with positive energy, which we could all use. You don’t have to have a chronic illness to participate. Just how do you participate? There are two ways: 1 – Donate on Invisible Illness Awareness Week’s cause page. 2 – Enter the “I Choose To” giveaway by following the directions below. First place winner receives a Kindle Fire! Second and Third place winners receives a $25 Amazon gift card.
