Question: How are you? I have been struggling with a chronic "something" (no diagnosis) my entire life (I'm almost 24), and every so often a new symptom comes up to add on to the rest. The last five years have been the worst; I couldn't finish school becuase of the brain fog and dizziness (used to be a straight A student). I can't work because some days get so bad that I can't leave the house. I can't eat; literally everything makes me "sicker". This list goes on..:(
My question is how did you get the strength to go on despite feeling so horrible? What is your outlook on having a positive future? I don't know how to get out of this. Living with my family who believes in hard work and doesn't buy any of it is really hard as well.
I hate this waiting game..waiting to feel worse. Not living. I am not who I wanted to be, or ever imagined to be.
Answer:
How did I find the strength to go on despite feeling so horrible?
Honestly I get a lot of strength from my mom. She has struggled her entire life with what she thought was eczema and about 2 years ago they diagnosed her with lupus (discoid: only affecting the skin), fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, and she's always had issues with her blood cell count. She never gave up, even when they told her that she wouldn't live past 20, and she's now over 50; or when they kept telling her that she had eczema and nothing prescribed helped it. So, I figured if she could go on and do so much so could I. She's been my number 1 supporter throughout the years.
I went on my hiatus because my symptoms all flared really bad. I've been trying to get in shape and lose weight, but that all ended up backfiring in my face. Once I got my gym membership and went for about a month I somehow managed to get a herniated disc and pinched nerve. To add to it my allergy doc put me on prednisone and I have gained a tremendous amount of weight.
What is my outlook on having a positive future?
I have a strong belief in God and hold close to my spirituality. I try to keep a good devotional book, pray everyday, and journal often. I find it to be a good release for whatever situation I'm going through and it helps me to plan exactly what I want to do. If you write down your goals you are more likely to achieve them. For this year in particular, I decided to make my very first vision board focusing on role models, travel, positive affirmations and career goals. I'm still lacking on the career goals part. I've also taken the Happiness Challenge. I was inspired after watching Oprah's Super Soul Sunday with Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage. It's basically where you take out about 5 minutes out of your day and write down 3 things that you are grateful for. The thought process behind it is that if you are grateful for the little things around you and even the big things too that you find you are happier.
